2 Reasons To Get Your Boiler Regularly Serviced

by Eliza Chapman

A boiler can be a good way to heat your house. The boiler heats up water that runs through a forced hot water radiator system in your house. The hot water heats up the metal radiators, generally baseboard radiators, and then the heat radiates out and heats the air. As the heated air rises up, the colder air gets heated and the cycle continues. You also get nearly unlimited hot water from your boiler, since it is always going to produce hot water, even if you aren't in the middle of an active heating season. If you do have a boiler, you need to make sure that you get it serviced regularly. Having an HVAC tech come and service your boiler regularly is good for several reasons.

Efficiency

One prime reason is that your boiler will be more energy efficient. That means that it will use less fuel to produce more heat. With the fact that fuel oil and electricity prices are rising, heating your house can get pretty expensive. But, if your boiler gets serviced regularly, then the service tech will be able to make sure that there is nothing that could lower the efficiency of your boiler. That can include things like dirty fuel intakes that limit how much fuel goes in or partially clogged pumps, which have to work harder to pump the water around your house to keep your house warm.

Safety

Getting your boiler checked out and serviced regularly also increases your family's safety. If something goes wrong with your boiler, it could build up too much pressure and without a way to release that pressure, your boiler could rupture. Even if your boiler doesn't rupture, there are a lot of other things that could go wrong and cause damage to your house or risk your family's safety. When the service tech comes to service your boiler, they will check to make sure things like the gas pressure is calibrated correctly so that the boiler doesn't get more fuel than necessary. The HVAC tech will also check to make sure that all pressure release valves are clear and working so that they will activate in case of a pressure overload.

In certain climates, using a boiler to heat your house just makes good sense. It can provide even and gentle heat. If you do have a boiler, just make sure to contact a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning company so that they can come and service your boiler on a regular basis so that it works as well as it can.

About Me

Dealing With Furnace Problems

A few years ago, I could tell that we were having serious furnace problems. In addition to dealing with a house that was constantly too cold or too warm, we were also plagued by a noisy, smelly furnace that seemed to have trouble on a daily basis. Unfortunately, I didn't know enough about furnaces at the time to spot the problems quickly. One day, the entire system died, and it was beyond repair. After having that experience, I learned a lot about HVAC systems, so that I could troubleshoot future systems. This website is all about teaching you what you need to know so that you don't end up in the same situation.
