Dealing With Furnace Problems

4 Air Conditioning Options

by Eliza Chapman

Air conditioning is an effective way to cool indoor air during the hot summer months. However, there are multiple types of cooling options from which to choose. If you would like to know more about the pros and cons of each, keep reading.

1. Window Units

Window unit air condition systems, as the name suggests, sit in your window. They need to sit in the window so they can release hot air outside. Window units are incredibly affordable and non-invasive. For this reason, they are a great way to add cooling without extensive adjustments. They are also great if you rent and aren't allowed to make your own adjustments.

The downside of window units is that they only cool one room, and you'll need to ensure the unit is appropriately sized for the room. If the room is too big for the system, the system becomes less effective. These systems don't last very long, but they also don't require much maintenance or repairs.

2. Portable Units

Portable units also need windows to expel hot air. However, the system itself sits on the floor. A tube runs from the system to the window to expel the hot air. These have many of the same advantages and disadvantages as window units.

However, they are more desirable than window units because you can easily move them from one room to another. Therefore, you only need one to cool your living room during the day and bedroom at night.

3. Mini-Split System

A mini-split system relies on multiple indoor units and one outdoor unit. Each indoor unit creates a zone. For example, if you have an indoor unit in each room, each room is a different zone. You can cool these zones separately from each other, which makes the system more efficient.

Mini-split systems are effective, but they are also expensive to install. Because of the zoned cooling, however, you may save money on your cooling bills.

4. Forced-Air Cooling/Central Air Conditioning

Forced air-cooling or central air conditioning is the most effective way to quickly cool your home and reach extremely low indoor temperatures. They are much more expensive to install than window and portable units, but they cool your whole home and last a long time. You can even choose a system that has zoned cooling.

However, they need ducts. If you don't have ducts, this can drastically increase the price. Even if you have ducts, if you neglect to maintain them, they may become inefficient, damaged, and dirty.

Air conditioning is a great way to stay cool in the summer months. There are many options, making it easy to find a solution for you. If you would like to know more about advanced cooling like a mini-split system or central air conditioning, contact an air conditioning company in your area today.

About Me

Dealing With Furnace Problems

A few years ago, I could tell that we were having serious furnace problems. In addition to dealing with a house that was constantly too cold or too warm, we were also plagued by a noisy, smelly furnace that seemed to have trouble on a daily basis. Unfortunately, I didn't know enough about furnaces at the time to spot the problems quickly. One day, the entire system died, and it was beyond repair. After having that experience, I learned a lot about HVAC systems, so that I could troubleshoot future systems. This website is all about teaching you what you need to know so that you don't end up in the same situation.
